Early Vote Begins In Texas But Some Areas Trending Purple – Get Out and Vote!

President Obama Screams in Fear at Texans Take to the Polls

As the early vote begins in Texas, it is already underway in many states across America. Now is the time for us not to just get out the vote enough to win, but to bring all of our votes to the polls to send a clear message to our government. Many areas of Texas are solid red in our votes. But, in some of our largest counties we have gone anywhere from purple to solid blue. Many local races were lost by Republicans with the slimmest of margins. Sometimes only a few votes separated a Republican victory or loss in recent elections. This is a trend you can stop!

Dallas County went blue several years ago and in 2008 President Obama washed a sea of blue votes across Harris County and swept out many well qualified judges in the process. In 2010 we moved back to the right, but despite a wave of Republican victories across Texas, Harris County voted for Democrat Bill White over Republican Rick Perry. At this point, Harris County is dark purple and just a few votes could make a difference on many of our down ballot races.

This year was a very odd election cycle. Democrats protested our redistricting and extended our primaries and run-off election through July. We have not had the time for post-primary healing and party unity building that occurs after most primary seasons. We must come together today, as a party, and drive home the message of conservative values by electing our entire slate of candidates across Texas and especially here in Harris County.

During a recent event at King Street Patriots, I spoke with several of our judicial candidates about their races as well as two judges, one who won in 2008 by the slimmest of margins and one who lost by just a few votes. Judge Tad Halbach is a Civil Court Judge on the 333rd Civil District Court. Out of over 1 million votes cast in the 2008 election, he won his race by 230 votes. Imagine what would have happened if just a few more Republicans had stayed home because we all knew McCain was going to carry Texas anyway!

Two of our outstanding judges, Brock Thomas of the 338th Criminal District Court and Devon Anderson of the 177th Criminal District Court were swept out by highly unqualified judges with a slim margin of about 2 percentage points. Anderson was replaced by the now infamous Judge Kevin Fine who verbally castigated a rape victim in open court after her rapist had been convicted and then went on and later declared Texas’ death penalty to be unconstitutional.  Do you think a few votes might have made a difference here?  Listen below as Judges Halbach and Thomas talk about the importance of your vote in these elections.

Judge Thomas is back on the ballot for criminal district court judge this election cycle along with former judge Roger Bridgwater (also unseated in the 2008 wave by a very close margin). Also joining them on the ballot are several immensely qualified candidates for criminal court judge including Renee Magee who has served the Harris County District Attorney’s office for nearly twenty years; Judge Ryan Patrick who was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to replace the aforementioned Judge Kevin Fine, and Judge Mark Kent Ellis; current prosecutor Brad Hart and former prosecutors Stacey Bond, Robert Summerlin and Kristin Guiney.

Judge Halback is seeking re-election for his position on the 333rd Civil District Court. He is joined on the ballot by Judge Ken Wise; former judges Elizabeth Ray (who lost in 2008 by only 400 votes) and Russell Lloyd; and a host of outstandingly qualified candidates including former Tax Court Judge and double board certified, thirty-five year lawyer Michael Landrum; Bruce Bain, Jeff Hastings, Richard Risinger, John Coselli, Lamar McCorkle, John Wittenmyer (running against Democrat Judge Michael Englehart who said the happiest day of his life was the day Obama came out for Gay Marriage), Don Self, Bud Wiesedeppe, and Ken Shortreed.  I mentioned Ken last because, as he loves to say, “It’s a long ballot, but a Shortreed at the bottom!

Justice Brett Busby - 14th Court of Appeals, Pl 3Democrats are being stirred up to vote. The Houston Chronicle has been providing cover for Democrats like County Attorney Vince Ryan and Sheriff Adrian Garcia. They showed a total lack of credibility by endorsing the opponent of one of our best qualified and most conservative candidates, Justice Brett Busby, candidate for the 14th Court of Appeals Place 3. Justice Busby clerked for not one, but two U.S. Supreme Court Justices (Byron White and John Paul Stevens) and has argued and briefed cases before that court on many occasions. Perhaps the Chronicle believes Justice Busby is well on his way to a future appointment as a conservative justice on that great court.

In our county civil courts we also have two outstanding incumbents running for re-election.  Judge Theresa Chang previously served the people of Harris County as the District Clerk before moving to the County Court #2 bench.  Judge Debra Ibarra Mayfield was appointed to County Court #1 late last year and has done a great job in this position for the people of Harris County.

Bond issues are also working against us by bringing out traditional Democrat voters. Metro also has a proposition to try and take more of your sales tax dollars for toy trains. Vote yes on the Metro issue to stop them from taking money away from street repair. There is also a city council race which could increase the Democrat vote in parts of the city. We cannot sit back and count on a Romney wave to sweep our candidates into office. We must get out our vote!

The Federal Courts have put Voter ID law, you worked so hard for many years to get passed, on hold – allowing Democrats to continue their usual tactics of voter fraud and improper registration in full force.  FortunatelyTrue the Vote will put forth a small army of well-trained election officials and poll watchers to keep a watchful eye out for fraud. But we will still need every vote we can get to achieve our victory and send the proper message to Washington and Austin.

Lloyd Oliver's Boobs and Butts Wall - Houston Press Photo

Plastic Breasts and Butts on Democrat DA Candidate Lloyd Oliver’s Bedroom Wall

We have a great slate of Republican candidates up and down the ballot and the Democrats have gone a long way to give us even more reasons to vote STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN! Just look at the District Attorney’s race where an outstandingly qualified former criminal court judge, Mike Anderson faces off against a laughable Democrat Lloyd Oliver, who thinks domestic violence is sexual foreplay and that prosecutors should be hired by their bust size.  The Houston Chronicle showed some political honesty through Patti Hart’s chastising article “Domestic Violence is a Serious Issue, Mr. Oliver“. The Houston Press wrote about the self-proclaimed “Tea Party Democrat” Lloyd Oliver. The article details the eccentricities of Oliver including his bedroom wall adorned with a plastic pair of breasts and panty draped buttocks.

Ted Cruz Grassroots Victory 2012

Ted Cruz Grassroots Victory Celebration 2012

Our U.S. Senate candidate, Ted Cruz, fired up the grass roots voters of Texas to come out in the heat of a July run-off election and put him on the November ballot. Can we keep that level of excitement through this election and send a Senator Cruz to D.C. to work for the reforms we demand?  Carry that energy and excitement to the polls and vote for all of our down ballot candidates!

Vince Ryan protecting Democrats not taxpayersIn the County Attorney’s race we have a proven candidate in Robert Talton running against the incumbent, Vince Ryan, who has made a general practice of of covering up one Democrat scandal after another when he is supposed to be our watchdog over the ethics in county government.

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia is just one of the Democrat officials being protected by County Attorney Vince Ryan.  Garcia has a string of failures in his office and we will be well served by replacing him with a very strongly qualified candidate, Louis Guthrie!

Elections have consequences.  We cannot afford the consequences of Democrats winning or keeping some of these critical down ballot races. We have a great opportunity to not only win a decisive victory for conservatives but to send a message of real change across our state.  It starts with you.

Vote today and then spend the next two weeks talking to your friends and neighbors. Get them to the polls. Find every like-minded registered voter you can and make sure they vote. Some of these races may well be decided by just a few votes. Make sure you don’t leave any votes at home that could have made the difference. I am voting today! See you at the polls…

A Lawless Presidency – Part 5 – National Rifle Association Getting Furious Fast over Fast and Furious

Photo Reposted from LawEnforcementToday.com

Perhaps the most lawless act of the Obama Presidency has been its role in Operation Fast and Furious. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has been out front in keeping this story in the public’s eye. While in Washington, DC, last month, I spoke with NRA Spokesperson Jacqueline Otto about Fast and Furious. She told me the NRA got “furious fast over Fast and Furious“.

Operation Fast and Furious first came to public attention shortly after the murder of US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered during a firefight with Mexican gangsters in December of 2010. In the video below, I talk with Otto about the anti-gun agenda of the Obama Administration and how they created Fast and Furious to create a crisis in order to further their gun-control plans.

Sharyl Attkisson, CBS News

Otto acknowledged TexasGOPVote’s role in reporting this scandal early on and keeping the story alive until picked up nationally by CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson. Senator Charles Grassley and HouseOversight Committee Chairman Daryl Issa led the way for Congressional investigations leading to Contempt of Congress charges being levied against Eric Holder for his refusal to provide subpoenaed documents Congress required to carry out its Constitutionally mandated role of oversight.

On the political agenda of the Obama Administration, Otto explained, “Almost from the beginning there was a chorus of Administration officials using the term ‘90% of the firearms that were used in Mexican violence”. 90% of firearms they said were coming from America.

Otto continued, “What they didn’t tell us was that they were the ones sending them there – through Operation Fast and Furious. And, when that story came to light through the murder of Brian Terry and through the hundreds of Mexican citizens who have been murdered through this violence.

The proof of the gun control agenda soon followed. Otto explained, “They used the 90% figure to justify their new regulatory schemes, their new registration requirements and forcing these federally licensed firearms dealers that are in the border states to jump through more hoops, and do more paperwork and follow more requirements when they weren’t the ones at fault.

Many of the firearms dealers in Arizona and Texas asked to not participate in this program – fearing violence and death would result from this. They were coerced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE, or ATF) to continue their participations. This was revealed in one of Senator Grassley’s earliest reports.

In my Feb, 2010 article titled, Agent Brian Terry Murder – DOJ Adds to the Cover-up, I wrote, “The licensed gun dealer who sold the weapons allegedly recovered at the scene of Agent Terry’s murder met with the ATF and the Assistant US Attorney as early as December 2009 to discuss his role as a licensed dealer during this investigation. Avila was allowed to continue his purchases, including two .50 caliber rifles as late as June 2010.

The investigation continues despite an internal DOJ Inspector General report which whitewashed Attorney General Eric Holder’s involvement in Fast and Furious. Ask yourself this, if Holder and Obama are not directly involved, how and why did Obama give Holder Executive Privilege on this scandal?

Saddle-Up Texas Straw Poll – Ted Cruz Wins Senate Portion of Poll

Senate Candidate Ted Cruz

The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll event turned out to be a very successful event for candidates to meet with some of the state’s top political activists from the grassroots of Texas. I will be writing a series of posts on this event to bring you some speeches and personal interviews I conducted with some of the speakers who were present.

Part of the event was, obviously, a straw poll. The poll consisted of two parts.A vote by the people present and a separate vote that was conducted by text messaging via an internet promotion. Emails were ablaze from candidates as the reached out to supporters to cast ballots on their behalf. The poll took votes on the Presidential Primary Candidates as well as the Texas US Senate and House races. Additionally votes were taken for State Senate and State House districts.

In the Presidential Poll, at no surprise to anyone, Rep. Ron Paul finished first with over 54% of the Text vote and 27% of the in person vote. In the Text vote, Rick Santorum finished second with 15.6%, followed by Rick Perry at 13.3% and Gingrich with 11.9%. The In-Person Vote showed Newt Gingrich at 23.8%, followed closely by Rick Santorum at 21.2%. Perry came in 4th with 19.4% of the vote.

American Veterans Honored at Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll

US Senate candidate, Ted Cruz delivered an impassioned speech to the attendees, as did several other Senate candidates. Cruz won both the Text vote and the In-person vote. He garnered 49.1% of the Text vote and 47.8% of the In-person vote. In the Text vote, Cruz was followed by the newest of the Senate candidates, Craig James at 12.9% and Glenn Addison at 12.0%. Lela Pittenger and former Dallas Mayor, Tom Leppert tied at 9.1% each.

The In-person results showed Glen Addison in 2nd with 19.9%, David Dewhurst at 10.3%, Craig James at 9.9% and Lela Pittenger at 7.2%.

After Cruz’ speech, he paused to talk with me in an exclusive interview. During the interview, I asked Cruz about the stories being circulated that he is tied, through his wife, to the CFR. Normally, I would not ask a question about a candidate’s spouse, but this story keeps hanging around. I felt it was important to get his answer to this on record.

Interview with US Senate Candidate Ted Cruz

Other parts of the interview include Cruz’ discussion about defending Texas against an over-reaching federal government and protecting US sovereignty from the World Court’s attack on Texas during the 2008 execution of rapist/murderer Jose Medellian. Please note, this interview does not constitute nor imply an endorsement for Mr. Cruz or any other candidate in this race.

Interestingly enough, while then Texas Solicitor General Cruz was in Washington DC defending Texas in this case, I was on the prison grounds in Huntsville doing one of my first news reports about this particular execution.

During the next several days, I will bring you more reports about the Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll. I have several other key interviews including one with former Presidential Candidate, Herman Cain.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the board of Saddle Up Texas for their hospitality and cooperation in making these reports possible.  Specifically to the people I worked with, Boar President Joe Pelati, Vice-President Felicia Cravens (Houston Tea Party Society) and Director Dale Huls (Clear Lake Tea Party).  Without their work and the dozens of volunteers who put in tireless hours, none of this would have been possible.

Rep. Ted Poe on Rogue Fast & Furious Program – It’s Nonsense

Fast & Furious... It's Nonsense

This is a follow-up story about the murder of Brian Terry.  In December of 2010, US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered by a gang of Mexican banditos. Two of the weapons involved in the shooting were learned to have come from a federal program called “Operation Fast & Furious”.  Recently the House Judiciary Committee under the leadership of Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) held a hearing to receive testimony from US Attorney General (AG) Eric Holder as to the Justice Department’s involvement in this operation.  Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX) is a member of that committee and recently sat down with me to discuss this and other matters related to Border Security and Illegal Immigration.

I asked Congressman Poe about his impressions of AG Holder during the hearings.  Poe said, “The more I learned from AG Holder, the more I was concerned, and am concerned about this entire operation.”  He continued, “The idea that the United States would smuggle automatic weapons to our neighbor, Mexico; give them to the drug cartels, the enemy of Mexico and the United States, 2000 weapons most of which are unaccounted for, it’s nonsense.”

Congressman Ted Poe discusses Operation Fast & Furious with Bob Price.

Poe stated that 200 Mexicans have died and at least 2 American law enforcement have died because of this operation.

The second thing that Holder said that surprised Poe was, “More people are going to die.”  Poe said, “That’s awful!”

The third thing Poe said was, “I asked him, who was in charge of this operation?” Holder’s answer – “I don’t know!”  Poe said that answer was preposterous.

Poe went on to say, “If he (Holder) didn’t know who was in charge, is there a rogue operation going on in the Justice Department?”  If there is some “rogue operation” going on, why has the Justice Department been unable to figure that out?

Video Interview with Congressman Ted Poe

I asked Poe if the AG testified under oath. He informed me that while Holder was not “sworn in” before the hearing, part of the agreement to testify makes it clear that the testimony was under potential of perjury.  Poe expressed dissatisfaction with Holder’s reluctance to give up any of his direct correspondence related to Fast & Furious.  He assured me, “We will get the documents!”

Poe said Holder should resign and President Obama should appoint a special prosecutor to completely investigate this operation.  I asked Poe about other’s calling for impeachment of the AG. He said that impeachment would take too long, citing next year’s elections.  He went on to say the Senate would never convict anyway.  If Obama does not appoint a special prosecutor, Poe felt certain a new president would in 2013.

Congressman Ted Poe

I asked Poe what he learned that he did not know before the hearing.  He expressed that he was surprised to learn that Mexico did know part of the operation but not the entire operation.  Poe asked Holder during the hearing, “Would you agree this was reckless conduct on the part of the part of the Justice Department?”  Holder replied, “Yes, I would agree that it was reckless.”  Poe pointed out that under Texas law; reckless conduct that resulted in the death of another peron is manslaughter at which point Holder backed away from his comment.

We went on to discuss the family of Agent Terry and their desire to see justice done. We talked about how the over aggressive prosecution of Border Patrol agents, like Agent Jesus Diaz, might have led to hesitation in response by Border Patrol Agents leading to their deaths.

And finally, we wrapped up the interview following up on our previous discussion about Congressman Poe’s bill on border security that would place 10,000 National Guard troops along the border, under the direction of border state governors but paid for by the federal government.  He told me this bill is still in committee and they plan on moving it forward next year.

At one point in the interview, Poe mentioned Holder’s reputation for not reading legislation citing the AG’s failure to read the Arizona 1070 bill prior to filing suit against the state of Arizona and even before testifying before Congress on the matter. Here is a video of that exchange between Poe and the AG.

We left this interview knowing we have much more to discuss. As the Congressional investigation continues, I will check back in with the Congressman to bring you updates on the progress of the investigation. If you have questions you would like me to ask the Congressman on this matter, please reply in the comments below and I will bring them up in our next interview.

Texas Legislature Honors Fallen Warriors at Texas Capitol – Interviews with Families and Legislators

As Memorial Weekend kicked off in Texas on Friday, the Texas Legislature took a break to honor 96 Texas Warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice for our state and nation.

KXAN TV in Austin partnered with TexasGOPVote to report:

“Every session, members from both chambers – both sides of the aisle, for that matter – they take some time to gather here in memory of those who have fallen in Afghanistan and in Iraq,” said Gov. Rick Perry, as he addressed a joint session in the Texas House.

“Let these brave men and women be an example to us in the House of Representatives,” said Rep. George Lavender, R-Texarkana. “May we serve our state and nation with the courage and strength befitting of their sacrifice.”

After the service, I took a few moments to speak with some families who lost soldiers and Texas Legislators and Senators about the service.

As the service was concluding, members of the Texas National Guard fired a cannon salute from the eastern lawn of the Texas Capitol in memory of many of their own friends who died in the line of duty.

Congressman Ted Poe Discusses Murder of BP Agent Brian Terry, Operation Gun Runner and EPA Overreach in Exclusive Video

Congressman Ted Poe

In an exclusive interview with TexasGOPVote, US Representative Ted Poe (R-TX 2nd CD) talks with Bob Price of US Border Watch and TexasGOPVote about a variety of topics including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (BATFE, ATF) bungling of Operation Gunrunner leading to the deaths of US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terryand Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agent Jamie Zapata.  Congressman Poe also discussed his own plan for securing the US/Mexico Border and the overreach of the Federal Government’s EPA into areas like light bulbs, Texas air quality and offshore drilling.

“The whole idea is nonsense”, Congressman Poe said about Operation Gun Runner. “A thousand or more of those weapons have gone to Mexico.” Of course the ATF has not been able to trace those guns.

Congressman Ted Poe

“We do know about two of them. One of those guns was used apparently in the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. One of those other weapons was used in the shooting of ICE Agent Jaime Zapata in Mexico.”

We also discussed the hesitation of Border Patrol Agents to act in their own defense because of prior wreckless prosecutions of Border Patrol Agents by former US Attorney Johnny Sutton.  This could be part of the reason why Border Patrol Agents are taking “bean bag weapons” to the gunfight along our southern border.  Congressman Poe discusses this in the following video.

On Border Security, Congressman Poe has proposed a resolution named the “National Guard Border Enforcement Act“.  This bill calls for deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops along the US/Mexico border.  The troops would be paid for by the federal government, but would remain under the control of the border state governors. This would enable the troops to retain law enforcement authority while guarding our border.

Bob Price Interviews Congressman Ted Poe

On the EPA, Congressman Poe said, “The EPA should not be in control over what kind of lights we have in our home and offices.” This was discussed during our conversation about a South Carolina bill that would allow the manufacture of incandesent light bulbs in South Carolina to only be sold in South Carolina thereby nullifying the overreach of the EPA by eliminating their Interstate Commerce “jurisdiction”.  Of course, we must also look at Mr. Poe’s now famous speech on the House floor about the infamous CFL light bulbs.

We went on to discuss the economic war being waged by the Obama Adminstration against Texas.  This can be illustrated by looking at the examples of economic warfare by this administration against the Lone Star State.  These include cutting back NASA, refusal to place a Space Shuttle in Houston, the cutting of the BAE Systems Armored Vehicle plant in Sealy, Texas, the offshore drilling ban, and the recent refusal to allow federal disaster assistance for the fire stricken areas of Texas.

Poe Discusses EPA in Texas

The EPA now wants to regulate clean air in Texas despite the excellent job being done by our own Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  “The House has passed legislation to not allow funds to be used to implement the so called greenhouse gas regulation,” Mr Poe said.  “I introduced a bill to defund the EPA to prevent them from regulating CO2 emmissions.”

Congressman Poe encouraged voters to stay in touch with their legislators to make sure they are following their will as voters.

More of Congressman Poe’s unique House Floor speeches can be found on YouTube.

Congressman Poe is a great example of the kind of leadership our country is missing.  His “get things done” style of leadership should be a lesson to other members of Congress, especially the leadership in Congress.  It was a great opportunity to meet with Congressman Poe and lean more about his actions on our behalf

Rep. Allen West Speaks to Dallas Area Conservatives – New Leadership for America – Exclusive Interview

Congressman - LTC Allen West in Dallas, Texas

“When you set the bar low, you jump low,” said US Rep. and retired Army Lt. Col. Allen West (R-FL) quoting one of his jump instructors from his early Army training.  That is exactly what we have been doing in the House of Representatives when it comes to reducing the run away deficit spending habits of Barack Obama and Senate Democrats.  Rep. West made this comment in a speech to Dallas County GOP activists recently at Sammy’s Bar-B-Que in the shadows of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

West began his remarks with comments about our run away spending stating that during the month of February, the shortest month of the year, we ran up a $223B deficit. 47% of our $12,000,000,000,000 ($12T) is owned by foreign governments. 29% is owned by the Chinese government. We pay more in our interest payments to the Chinese government than they pay in total military spending. In other words, we are funding the military that may one day be used against us. (my comment, not Rep. West’s)

Following is Colonel West’s speech to the Park Cities Republican Women’s meeting in Dallas, Texas earlier this month.

At the conclusion of his prepared remarks, West took a few questions from the audience. Questions ranging from immigration reform to foreign policy to ObamaCare. One thing became apparent, this man does not avoid questions.

After Col. West’s speech, I was able to spend some time with him, one-on-one, and ask him some questions about his unique style of leadership, Obama’s illegal war in Lybia, Border Security and Sharia Law in America. Col. West was on a very tight schedule this day and we are grateful for the opportunity for this exclusive interview for the readers of TexasGOPVote.

Interview with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott took a few minutes out of the national TV news schedule today to talk to the people of Texas in an exclusive interview with TexasGOPVote.com. In what started out to be a short five minute interview, we expanded the information for you to cover several viewpoints of this week’s federal court ruling that ObamaCare is unconstitutional and no longer the “law of the land”.

In this expanded interview we covered this case versus the other court cases on this topic and why this case is very important. We talked about other states efforts to “nullify” the overreaching federal action and the impact this had in preparing the lawsuits.  We also talked about actions currently underway in the Texas Legislature and where that should proceed.  And finally, we discussed Sen. Patrick Leahy’s (D-VT) laughable idea that somehow the US Senate should determine what is Constitutional.

Here is a list of all of the states that have filed suit against the federal government relating to the ObamaCare bill.

Here is the interview with General Abbott in its entirity for your review and comments:

I would like to thank the Attorney General of Texas for his tireless efforts to defend the US Constitution and the State of Texas from this overreaching federal government. We look forward to speaking with him again about efforts to bring more energy jobs to Texas by reigning in the EPA’s job killing regulations. We will have more on this soon.
